Priorities & Perspective

Why are you running for the Board of Trustees?
As a mother of four children currently attending schools across the Alamo Heights Independent School District, I have a personal stake in our district’s success. For the past six years, my family has been part of this incredible community, and our journey here is far from over. I’m running because I want to help ensure AHISD remains a top-performing district where every child is given the tools and support to thrive—academically, emotionally, and socially. I bring to the table not only my perspective as a parent but also a strong professional background and meaningful board experience. I’ve previously served as a trustee on two local school boards and held leadership roles on nonprofit boards. I understand what good governance looks like and I’m ready to contribute day one.
If elected, I will focus on the following key priorities—many of which align with the district’s ongoing strategic goals:
  1. Academic rigor with a focus on college, career, and military readiness.
  2. Recruiting and retaining high quailty educators and staff.
  3. Strengthening the district’s financial health and long-term sustainability.
  4. Advocating for improved public school funding.
  5. Ensuring successful implementation of the 2023 Bond program.
  6. Appropriate integration of technology into our curriculum.
  7. Maintaining a strong focus on student safety and school security
One of the most pressing challenges facing AHISD—and districts across Texas—is school finance. I’m particularly motivated to help navigate this complex issue with a balanced approach that emphasizes both short- and long-term strategies. I believe in being a good steward of taxpayer dollars while also advocating for the resources our children and teachers need to succeed. Collaboration with partners like the AH School Foundation will be key in these efforts.
As a parent with children attending Woodridge Elementary, the Junior School, and the High School, I bring a firsthand, day-to-day understanding of the student and parent experience in AHISD.  Professionally, my background includes strategic planning, budgeting, operations, recruitment, and advocacy—skills that directly apply to the responsibilities of a trustee. My prior board service includes eight years as a trustee at two local schools (two of those as Finance Chair). I know what it means to govern responsibly, ask the right questions, and work collaboratively toward shared goals.
I’ve always believed in showing up and giving back. I have served in various volunteer roles within the school district from being a class mom, a mystery reader at Howard, serving on a PTO board, chairing the Mule Team Tailgate and volunteering with the AH School Foundation are just a few examples. I have served six years on the San Antonio Academy Board of Trustees with two years as Finance Chair, serving on the Executive Committee and the Head of School search committee. I was a board member for two years at St. Davids Day School. Outside of education, I am active with my church, St. Andrews and have served on the Texas Biomed Forum board for six years, the Metro San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, Texas Hospital Association LDC and United Way.
